Advisers shun SIPP commercial property options

IFAs shunned commercial property facilities when choosing SIPPs during 2008 with their major priority being FSA approval for the products, according to figures from Defaqto.

Providers blame the current downturn in commercial property, but warn advisers to ensure they choose a SIPP which is ready to take advantage of the sector's resurgence. Defaqto's latest SIPP report exposed a number of key trends in how IFAs are searching for SIPPs using its research tools. One of the most noticeable developments was a greatly reduced appetite for property investment facilities, with pooled property, commercial property, solicitor options and annual property admin fees all seeing a major decrease in use as sifting criteria by IFAs.
