AMI urges caution over 'unnecessary' mortgage regulation

The Association of Mortgage Intermediaries (AMI) has urged caution over "unnecessary regulation" which it believes is unlikely to have the desired effect on the UK market.

AMI has questioned whether regulatory actions have had the required effect over the last five years in its latest report, ‘The UK Mortgage Market - a comparative study reflecting US and European influences'. It argues developments within the mortgage market in the UK are the result of a wide range of other factors, including macro-economic policy, that produced similar trends in other countries with vastly different regulatory regimes.
