Brokers eligible for government finance scheme

The Department for Business Innovation & Skills has confirmed that mortgage brokers who are independent of banks and insurance companies are eligible for the government's £1.3bn Enterprise Finance Scheme.

However, companies which grant mortgages or mortgage brokers which are attached to banks are all ineligible. Under the scheme, the government has guaranteed bank lending of three months to 10 years maturity to UK businesses with a turnover of up to £25m who cannot easily access finance. The guarantee can support new loans or refinance existing loans where the loan is at risk due to deteriorating quality of security.
