Madoff top beneficiary found dead in pool

The saga of Bernard Madoff's record-breaking fraud has taken another twist after one of the top beneficiaries of his Ponzi scheme died.

Florida businessman Jeffry Picower, 67, apparently drowned in the swimming pool of his mansion, reports the Guardian. Picower, a friend of Madoff's, was named in court papers as the biggest beneficiary of returns from the fraudster's corrupt investment empire. Picower was sued for $7.2bn earlier this year by bankruptcy trustees for Madoff's firm claiming that he should have known his phenomenal payouts - topping 100% some years - were fraudulent. His abrupt death follows at least two suicides linked to Madoff's record-breaking fraud. Madoff, serving a 150-year sentence for theft...
