Election 2010: Aviva public affairs head unseats Labour in Kent

The head of public affairs at Aviva has unseated the Labour incumbent to become Conservative MP for Chatham and Aylesford.

Tracey Crouch received 20,230 votes to take the majority and the seat from Labour's Jonathan Shaw, who received 14,161 votes. The Liberal Democrats candidate John McClintock ran a distant third with 5,832 votes. In her victory speech last night Crouch said: "At a time when the public's confidence in politicians is so low I think we can all be proud of the campaigns we have run here in Chatham and Aylesford.
