US Fed chief Ben Bernanke has told students money doesn't buy happiness, and they should spend time with friends instead.

Wealth and income contribute to happiness and life satisfaction, but other factors must also be very important, Bernanke said in a commencement speech at the University of South Carolina. "Or, as your parents always said, money doesn't buy happiness. Well, an economist might reply, at least not by itself," he quipped. He warned the students to resist the temptation to go into a field or take a job just because the pay is high.
