Wealth levels per person in the UK hit their lowest level for five years in 2008 as a result of the financial crisis, although they have since rebounded.
Including home ownership and savings, wealth per person stood at £109,000 per person in 2008, although it rose to £117,000 the following year. The figures, released by the Office for National Statistics, also reveal the peak of wealth was in 2007, when it stood at £128,000. Meanwhile, between 2008 and 2009, debt as a percentage total household also dropped, from 169% to 161%. The report says: "The fall in household net wealth between 2007 and 2009 was largely because of the fall in house prices which meant that property assets were smaller."
