Flat start for FTSE despite strong updates

Company updates have had a good reception but London's top share index is pausing for breath after recent strong gains.

The FTSE was down 0.09%, or 5.10 points, to 5,964.11 at 9.45am. This is despite well-received production updates from Vedanta and Kazakhmys, and strong early shows from precious metals miners as the demand for gold and silver continues to soar. Shares in gold miner Rangold Resources were up 4.83% to £49.68 per share, joined by silver miner Fresnillo, up 3.98% to £13.83. European markets also showed a mixed bag. The German Dax was up 0.16% to 7,138.62, while the French Cac 40 was down by 0.22% to 4,040.30. In the US, the Dow Jones closed up slightly at 0.07% higher to 11,985.4...
