Last month ETF trading on Euronext reached 17% of all equity trades, its highest ever level and there is still room for growth.
ETF trading volumes on NYSE Euronext reached their highest level last month, increasing to 17% of the equity trades on exchange that day. On 12 July trades reached more than €932 million. Trading volumes for last month were up 40% compared to July 2010; on average ETF trades account for 10% of the equity trades on Euronext, which has markets in Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam and Lisbon. Trading volumes still lag behind the US, however, where exchange-traded products (ETPs, the majority of which are ETFs) are around 30% of the equity turnover.
