Disability and working age benefits will rise by 5.2% next year, the Chancellor has announced.
The increase is in line with the September CPI inflation figure as required by government rules. It will include Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) and the present Disability Living Allowance (DLA). There had been much speculation that benefits would see a smaller increase as the government sought to keep public spending under wraps. However, George Osborne MP, the Chancellor confirmed in his Autumn Statement that the commitment to a CPI based rate increase would be maintained.
