Former Major adviser to join Lloyds board

The head of Ten Downing Street's policy unit under the premiership of John Major is set to join the board of Lloyds Banking Group, the taxpayer-backed lender.

Lord Norman Blackwell is expected to be unveiled as a non-executive director of Lloyds as soon as tomorrow, reports Sky News. Lord Blackwell, a director of the media regulator Ofcom and Standard Life, has also chaired the rightwing think-tank the Centre for Policy Studies. His appointment is aimed at strengthening the Lloyds board following the departures of a number of senior directors.
