There are huge opportunities for financial advisers to speak to clients about equity release, according to research by Just Retirement.
The provider's survey The Role of Home Equity in Retirement Planning - believed to be the largest report of its kind - found that 44% of consumers do not know where to seek advice and nine in ten cannot name a provider. Stephen Lowe, group director of external affairs at Just Retirement said: "Advice has a crucial role because it helps overcome misconceptions about how equity release works and highlights the consumer safeguards in place."
