The coalition needs the support of more than "two of its closest pals" to divert the impact of Solvency II, Lord Mandelson has warned.
The former European Commissioner (pictured) told delegates at the National Association of Pension Funds (NAPF) conference that Britain needed to foster alliances in Europe if it wants to maintain its influence. He warned the Eurosceptic arm of the Conservative party risked creating an irreversible break with Europe at a time when Britain should be supporting the European Union through the current economic turmoil.
