The government will "move quickly" to place a cap on pension charges and a consultation is due imminently, pensions minister Steve Webb has said.
He told members of the pension select committee his department was readying a consultation on how to deal with high charges and more broadly the quality of pension schemes, which includes things such as ongoing governance. He said at present "you can be enrolled into pretty much anything" and this was unacceptable. Webb said larger firms that have already auto-enrolled their staff had used quality schemes but as smaller firms reach their staging dates things could change.
