Govt launches independent review of MAS

The government has today launched an independent review of the Money Advice Service (MAS), responding to calls from the Treasury select committee (TSC) last December.

The probe will look at the effectiveness of the independent service, which was set up by the government 2010 and which had a budget for this year of £77.5m, paid for by the financial industry. On its website, MAS states that it "helps people manage their money". "We do this directly through our own free and impartial advice service. We also work in partnership with other organisations to help people make the most of their money."
