Pensions minister Altmann hopeful on 'second hand' annuity market

New pensions minister Ros Altmann has said she is hopeful existing annuitants will get the opportunity to sell their right to an income for a lump sum.

Speaking on BBC One's Watchdog on 21 May, Baroness Altmann said she was optimistic a "second hand" market would emerge for current annuity holders. "I hope that at some point we'll be able to set up a second hand market, if you like, for annuities where you will be able to sell them back, if you want to," she told Anne Robinson in response to a viewer's question.
