Prudential has been cleared of any wrong-doing by the Pensions Ombudsman after it granted a transfer to a suspicious pension scheme.
The complainant, Andrew Johnston, had authorised Barncroft Associates to seek the transfer worth £18,643 into the Capita Oak Scheme, which was registered with HM Revenue and Customs. Prudential processed the request in October 2012, with Imperial Trustee Services writing to Johnson the following month to confirm his application to join the scheme had been accepted. The trustee company, which managed £10.8m on behalf of Capita Oak, has since been forced into provisional liquidation by the Insolvency Service.
