The Pensions Regulator (TPR) issued 424 fixed penalty notices and five escalating fines against employers for auto-enrolment failures in the year to March.
As the watchdog ramped up its action on auto-enrolment, it issued 1,682 compliance notices, 22 unpaid contribution notices, and six statutory inspection notices on top of the fines. More than 500 employers that received statutory notices asked for a review and TPR said in the majority of cases it revoked the notice, mostly because the targets no longer had any employees.
