Pension Wise session cost branded 'poor value'

The government's free at-retirement guidance is currently costing £496 per transaction to deliver, latest official figures have shown.

The service, which is partly financed by the industry with a subsidy from the government, has been criticised for delivering "poor value" for money compared with full financial advice. Old Mutual Wealth investment platform CEO Steven Levin compared the cost with the average hourly cost of full personalised advice, which he said was around £175. He said the industry needed to see better value for the £4m it is being asked to contribute.
