Advice firm Tenet has worked with Labour MP for Mansfield Alan Meale to table an early day motion calling for the government and regulator to consider a product-based levy in its review of Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) funding.
Early day motion 91 was tabled on 25 May has been signed by six MPs. It called for the government and regulator to create a better functioning advice market for a broader sector of consumers, many of whom have been turned away by advisers because the services offered were "not economic for their needs and circumstances". The motion argued cutting the cost of advice was not the answer to creating a sustainable and affordable advice system for consumers, and that regulatory fees and levies were at the heart of the problem, driving up consumer cost.
