Advisers increasingly pressurised by insistent clients, research finds

A fifth are concerned about their recommendations

More than a fifth of advisers feel ‘uncomfortable' about some recommendations made to clients in the wake of pension freedom, after they were pressurised to agree on a course of action.

Research by provider MetLife showed 22% of advisers have made recommendations they are uneasy about since pension freedoms launched in April last year. Insistent clients - those refusing to follow the advice given by their adviser - became a growing phenomenon following the pension reforms, which gave all defined contribution savers unfettered access to their pots from age 55. The issue became particularly apparent with defined benefit (DB) pension holders, who had not been given the same rights over their pots as those without guarantees on their pensions.
