Relaxed and uninformed behaviour by staff online is a major factor in the growing threat posed by global cybercrime, according to the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI).

Revealing it was the subject of a so-called 'phishing' email scam last year, the professional body warned that, in the context of cyber-security, human error had to be addressed as much as technological failings. CISI chief executive Simon Culhane said: "In our own experience, no key personal information was stolen but it was a wake-up call and emphasised to us that, no matter how many levels of software or hardware protection you have in your system, protecting yourself against human errors is much harder as cybercrime does not respect rank."
