Tilney Bestinvest has named the top ten most popular funds among its self-directed investors this year, with active equity funds taking the lead over bond vehicles.

The data was sourced via investors on the Bestinvest Online Investment Service with commentary from Tilney Bestinvest managing director Jason Hollands. 1. Fundsmith Equity Terry Smith (pictured) has developed a considerable fan club of investors who like his no nonsense buy-and-hold approach and the fact that he doesn't sit on the fence with his views. The performance has been stellar since launch and the fact that Terry ploughed an additional £115m of his own spare cash into the fund during the year, taking his personal interest in the fund to over £200m, is a big vote of confidence ...
