EU official warns Brexit negotiations at risk of delay on election result

A senior European Union official has said Brexit talks, scheduled to start in 11 days' time, may be delayed as a result of the outcome of the UK General Election.

Following yesterday's snap General Election, voting has resulted in a hung parliament with a Conservative majority.  This is a smaller lead for the Tories than had been expecting ahead of the vote and Prime Minister Theresa May is facing calls to step down. The outcome is also placing the future of Brexit negotiations in doubt as Brussels wants a strong leader who will be in place for the duration of the talks, according to The Telegraph.
