Negotiations on Britain's exit bill and a settlement on rights for EU citizens living in the UK and Britons on the continent, will be prioritised in the upcoming Brexit talks, both sides agreed on Monday.
The move was in line with Brussels' longstanding demands for the structure of the discussions and hence signalled an early concession from the UK side. Under the agreed structure talks about trade would follow the earlier tranche of negotiations, not be held in parallel, as previously requested by the UK.
