The government faces potential defeat in the House of Lords if it refuses to agree to cross-party amendments at the report stage of the Financial Guidance and Claims bill, Baroness Ros Altmann has warned.
Altmann predicted amendments to the bill would be debated on Tuesday (24 October) with "wide support from across the Lords". Three proposed amendments include a ban on pensions cold calling, and mandatory guidance before transferring out of a pension either through a financial adviser or the free national guidance service. The other amendment is a special duty of care for vulnerable customers who need help with their financial affairs, including "breathing space" for those with unmanageable debts.
