Quarterly reporting offers no more than the 'illusion of control' and is only relevant to businesses directly impacted by 'the Earth moving round the Sun', according to Monks deputy manager Spencer Adair.
Speaking at a roundtable discussion at Baillie Gifford's head office in Edinburgh, Adair (pictured) revealed he believed reports filed by companies on a quarterly basis were now largely irrelevant. "Quarterly reporting is brilliant if you are a farmer, because there is a harvest, and there is spring and, in any business where the pace at which the Earth moves around the Sun is relevant to its cycle then, absolutely - still have quarterly reporting," he said.
