The long-awaited regulations for a cold-calling ban have been approved by the House of Commons after an onerous journey to becoming law.
The ban on cold calling was intended to be put into law by June this year after the government introduced amendments to the Financial Guidance and Claims Bill, which received royal assent in May. However, the implementation of the ban was delayed while the Treasury consulted on further "technicalities", leaving many concerned about being targeted by fraudsters. The ban - which was approved without a vote yesterday (18 December) - is now a law under the Electronic Communications (Amendment) (No. 2) Regulations 2018, and is expected to become effective at the start of next year.
