Mini spending review may replace Budget

A second wave of the coronavirus pandemic could lead to the delay of chancellor Rishi Sunak’s autumn Budget, according to reports.

Sunak still intends to deliver the Budget on time, but the FT reported plans are being drawn up for that to be replaced by a mini spending review should Covid-19 spike in the autumn. Should that happen, Sunak is likely to shelve announcing big public spending decisions until after the crisis, replacing it instead with a smaller review that allocates spending to departments for a single year.
