Known for her review of support for British Steel Pension Scheme members

Chair of The Pensions Ombudsman (TPO) Caroline Rookes died last Monday (16 October), a statement has confirmed.

Rookes was appointed chair at TPO in December 2021 after spending two years in the position of interim chair. She is noted on the retail side of the market for leading an independent review of communications and support provided to British Steel Pension Scheme members during the 2017/18 pension restructuring exercise. Rookes spent many years as a senior civil servant and was chief executive of the Money Advice Service for four years as well as director of private pensions for the Department For Work and Pensions (DWP) between 2005 and 2013.
