When thinking about a career path, young people might expect a financial adviser to be a numbers-orientated career with calculators and spreadsheets as the tools of the trade.

But understanding people is the most important element, with the key skill of empathy coming out as essential, according to advisers Emmelia Powell and Matthew Corke. The pair yesterday (12 February) shared their route to the financial advice profession and some advice for younger people considering the career path.
