HMRC nets £6.3bn from IHT in first three quarters of 2024/25

Inheritance tax (IHT) receipts totalled £6.3bn in the first three quarters of the 2024/25 financial year, up 11% on the £5.7bn brought in during the same period the previous year, latest figures reveal.

Statistics from HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) released today (22 January) showed that IHT tax take continued to rise as thresholds remained frozen. December receipts alone were £620m, reflecting a rise of 13% year on year.  Just Group said rising asset prices, frozen thresholds – which were extended by an additional two years in the Autumn Budget – and additional policy reforms to the IHT regime would see IHT figures continue to rise.
