The last few weeks have seen announcements on best practice for paying protection claims from the ABI (good), hundreds of final responses going into the FSA over the RDR (not sure), more protection providers removing more of their medical limits or improving their underwriting processes (definitely good) and the usual merger and acquisition rumours, which obviously affect one or two protection providers (just plain confusing).
It’s getting harder to keep up with all of the different initiatives that are going on that affect your business in some way or other. In recent days the team have been talking about the future of the protection market in 2008, and where they feel the debates will be had. For a while now, we’ve supposedly had a price war. Some advisers have talked about how wrong it is for the decision of which provider to recommend being based solely on price.
