It's fair to say we aren't living through an age where it's easy to be optimistic. Between inflationary pressures, climate warnings and bitter international conflicts, I don't begrudge anyone for carrying an amount of defeatism. When it comes to assessing your own financial standing, this reality can weigh heavily on your shoulders. Arguably, this is felt most acutely by people at both ends of the working spectrum, those on the cusp of retirement and younger people setting the foundations for their futures.
