Most women affected by state pension age (SPA) equalisation were aware of the changes, according to a ten-year-old research document, as claims of a lack of government communication and calls for compensation grow.

A 2004 Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) report examining awareness of the changes to women's SPA - based on a poll of 2,700 adults of working age - suggested more than 70% of men and women were aware of the reforms. According to the document, 73% of women born between 1950 and 1959 - some of whom are affected by the changes - were aware of the increase, while a similar proportion of those born between 1940 and 1949 - who are unaffected - also indicated they knew.
