In a move welcomed by the Government, Paul Thornton has recommended the Pension Ombudsman should become a jurisdiction of the Financial Ombudsman Service in a bid to speed up the resolution process.
Thornton, who published his final report on the review of Pensions Institutions today, says the move should not be seen as scrapping the PO, instead the FOS should create a pensions jurisdiction which would be more like embedding the PO within FOS. He says the move would benefit from economies of scale through sharing resources, but more fundamentally he says the one area where there are concerns over the current system is the length of time the PO takes on resolving cases.
