Public debate on pensions is a necessity - Turner

Author of the Pension Commission's recent report has called for public debate on pensions, including policies which will match up to what people consider to be and adequate pension.

Adair Turner, chairman of the Pensions Commission said public debate is necessary as a contribution towards the body’s thought process, ahead of a final report expected in the autumn. Speaking at the London School of Economics, Turner said the majority of countries try to achieve target levels of pension, rising in accordance with an individual's lifetime earnings, but pointed towards New Zealand as the exception as its government provides an ‘adequate’ basic state pension and with individuals left to contribute above that.
