A former member of the Pensions Commission has backed the government's current proposals for personal accounts, including the suggestion to increase the annual contribution limit to £5,000.
Commenting during the question section of a pensions seminar held by Scottish Widows yesterday, Jeannie Drake warns while there are details which still need to be debated, she says the industry and government should not lose sight of the bigger picture. She points out the case for auto-enrolment is as compelling now, as when the Pensions Commission published its second report in November 2005, as there is a “huge decline in pension saving which is irreversible by voluntary saving alone”.
