Cash Isas popular, but not enough - Halifax

Cash held in Isas grew a record 129% over the last three years, new research indicates.

Data released by savings provider Halifax, based on figures from the Inland Revenue, says cash tops the popularity stakes in the Individual Savings Accounts category with a holding of £81.6bn last year, out of a total of £126bn. Stocks and shares Isas, meanwhile, held £44.2bn and saw growth of 68% over the past three years, while savers held just £522m in insurance Isas, according to the Halifax. Over nine million Isa accounts were opened in the UK in the first half of 2004/05, adding 6% to last years figure, while 58% of all Isa holders have less than £6000 in their Isa accounts. Ch...
