The British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) has called for a mandatory retirement age to be set at 65 but with concessions allowing the individual employers to stipulate the end point of the employer-employee relationship.
The BCC argues the retirement age should be the same age as that of the State Pension Age, ensuring that older workers do not miss out on state benefits. In a recent survey on retirement age - questioning 1,200 businesses across all sectors - the BCC found 36% of employers feel it ‘crucial' their business should retain the right to set a retirement age.
