The NAPF says three-quarters of final salary schemes are now closed to new members, with the next ‘big wave of change' being to close such schemes to existing members, because firms find them too expensive.
Christine Farnish, chief executive NAPF, has said she can see such schemes closing altogether by 2010. She points at successive Governments hiking up responsibility and the level of benefits employers are required to provide their workforce through occupational (final salary) schemes.
