The Association of British Insurers is having second thoughts about meeting the challenge laid down by the government to come up with an alternative to the National Pension Saving Scheme, IFAonline has learnt.
Sources close to the organisation say the trade body made a 'knee-jerk reaction' to the challenge laid before it by Stephen Timms, Minister for Pensions Reform at the ABI Saver Summit in December, in order to ensure the industry would have its say in response to the Turner report. However, some ABI members are now expressing concerns that by focusing on developing an alternative model, the focus is shifting away from whether it is the right solution to the right problems.
