Members of public service union, Unison have agreed to back strike action apposing a Government proposal to increase the workers' pension age from 60 to 65.
The Government is also proposing a move to a basic pay scheme rather than final salary. After consulting with close to 750,000 members via ballot, the union’s strike committee, which authorises strike action, will now decide on the next step on Thursday. Dave Prentis, Unison general secretary says: “Despite strong union opposition, the Government is intent on pushing through these changes a year early for local government workers.
