The retirement savings and income market looks set for consolidation, according to a report by research company Defaqto.

The report, Retirement Savings & Income Report 2007 – A Review of the Individual Retail Pensions Market In the UK, predicts the sector faces acquisitions and integration of compatible businesses. The research says the pensions landscape has prompted a re-appraisal by providers of their prospects, although many providers have posted positive sales figures since A-Day. Defaqto believes this will inevitably lead to further strategic alliances, which could lead to market domination by a handful of large and specialist organisations.
