At least three-quarters of men can now expect to live beyond 70 years old, suggests research by the Pensions Policy Institute.
Statistics contained in the latest PPI briefing note show 72% of men lived beyond 65 years of age in 1980 along while six out of ten men lived beyond 70. That figure is still climbing as 83% of men are expected to officially live beyond State retirement age next year (2005) and 76% live past 70 years old, and predicted over the next 40 years to climb even higher.
