Equitable members get green light for legal action

Equitable Life members have been given the go-ahead to take the Government to court over its failure to offer full compensation.

Lobby group EMAG (Equitable Members' Action Group) has today won the right to take the Government to the High Court on behalf of thousands who lost out when the mutual insurer almost collapsed. EMAG has says the Government ignored a report by the Parliamentary Ombudsman Ann Abraham. Despite the Ombudsman's recommendation of full compensation for victims due to maladministration by the Government and regulators, the Treasury rejected some of the findings and has only promised to compensate those who are facing hardship as a result of Equitable Life's near collapse.
