Adair Turner has repeated a warning that the current policy of means-testing certain benefits is putting people off savings for retirement.
The statement has come today as the chairman of the Pensions Commission gave evidence to the Commons Work and Pensions Committee. Turner has said people on low incomes in particular are concerned they will miss out on Pension Credit if they accumulate savings. And, if means-testing as a policy were extended, it could be that more people would take the rational view that saving undermines their ability to obtain benefits or credits, Turner has said.
