Private pension income outperforms the State

Average income from private pensions has tripled compared to the growth in state pensions since 1979, claims a pensions report from Clerical Medical.

In the first Pensions Report, published today, research suggests the average income for a pensioner household has increased by 97% in real terms from £47 a week in 1979, to £306 per week in 2004. The report, part of a series of research pieces published by HBOS, aims to highlight savings and wealth trends in the UK using a range of official statistics from the Department for work and Pensions (DWP) and the Office of National Statistics (ONS).
