Winterthur joins fight to keep ASP for all

Winterthur Life is calling on the government to drop its opposition to Alternatively Secured Pensions, which it calls a ‘ludicrous state of affairs'.

The move comes after IFA firm Hargreaves Lansdown launched a petition to convince the government the need for ASP reaches beyond those with religious objections to annuity pooling, such as the Plymouth Christian Brethren. The petition, which has gained almost 800 signatures in its first week, was set up last Friday following comments by Ed Balls, Economic Secretary to the Treasury in the House of Commons on 4 July where he said: “it was always our intention that the [ASP] rules would apply in the specific and narrow case of individuals with such principled religious objections such as the...
