Pensioners have been warned by police to keep a lookout when using cash point machines, following a number of "distraction thefts" outside banks and building societies in Coventry.
According to local police, thefts have taken place at Coventry Building Society, HSBC, Lloyds TSB and Santander cash points, reported the Coventry Telegraph. One victim, an 87 year-old woman, had £400 holiday money stolen from her after thieves spotted her using a Coventry Building Society cash point. In another incident, a 69 year-old man was using a HSBC cash point when he was approached by a man who shielded the screen with a piece of paper before grabbing the pensioner’s bank card and escaping.
